Helpful Hints
If organised properly baby Showers can be so much fun!! If you plan on having a baby shower to celebrate the upcoming birth of your child, they're are a number of things you should consider:
Who is planning the baby shower?
Is this something you want to do yourself? Is there anyone who could plan one for you? Has anyone offered to through you a shower?- Where will the baby shower be held?
Your house, the hosts house, coffee shop, the park?... the options are endless so decide where you will be most comfortable. - What date will the shower be held?
Most baby showers are held prior to the birth of your child at round about 6 weeks before the due date. However this is not a law and you are welcome to throw it prior to this or even after the baby is born. Check with the soon to be parents when they would like their shower and consider when the guests are most likely to be available. - What time should the shower start and how long should it last?
The best time to have a shower is at either Morning or Afternoon Tea time as you only have to provide light snacks for your guests and not a meal. Most showers on average last about two hours dependng on what you have planned. This allows just enough time to catch up on goss, play a few games, have some laughs and a light snack. Remember you don't want to over cater or tire out the mum to be too much. - Decide on a budget for the baby shower?
This is very important as you don't want to overspend and break the budget. Workout how much you want to spend on food and drinks, decorations as well as games and prizes. This is the easy bit, all you have to now is stick to it. - Decide on a theme for the baby shower and choose some decorations?
Set a theme for your shower (ie. colours, teddy bear, noahs ark etc) and but some simple decorations. Having a theme is not a neccesity but does help to create the atmosphere. - Decide on what food and beverage items you will serve!
Its best to have the party at morning or afternoon tea time as then you won't need to prepare a feast, just simple snacks and treats. Remember to stick to your budget and consider how many guests will be attending. Stuck for ideas checkout our Baby Shower Food ideas. - Decide on what games you will play!
Playing games will make the shower that much more entertaining. You don't have to play many to ensure your guests have a good time. Remember to stick to your budget and consider how many and what type of guests will be attending. If your stuck for ideas checkout out out Baby Shower Games page. - Prepare a guest list and send out invitations?
Discuss with the parents to be who should be invited to the shower. Determine whether you will have two showers, one for family and one for friends. Are you going to have both men and women at the shower? How many people can you comfortably cater for? Are the children of guests going to be invited and if so how will you keep them entertained? Once the list has been written make sure you send out your invites nice and early as there is nothing worse then preparing for a party that no one is available to attend. - Check on RSVP's!
These days people tend to be a bit slack in the RSVP department. You may have to chase these up as it is important that you know how many people are coming so you can cater for them properly. Remember there will always be people who say they are coming but don't and people who say they can't make it but come anyway. - Gifts
