Invitations
When it comes to invitations you can be as simple or creative as you like. Remember not to over commit yourself or go overboard if you really don't have the time. There is so much information to cram onto a small invite so heres some of the essentials:
-
The Guest List
No one expects you to invite everyone your child knows to the party but just ensure that your child is aware of other peoples feelings. Though kids generally accept that they won't be invited to every party they don't want to be the only one to miss out. Flashing around the invites to kids that aren't invited isn't very nice.
-
Parents and Siblings
Parents are very protective of young children and like to know exactly what their child will be doing at the party. Remember to include as much information as possible on the invite without going too overboard. Make sure you provide a phone number so you can be contacted if they have any questions. Remember that parents often want to stay and watch their child, bringing with them other small children - have tea and coffee prepared and some spare goody bags just in case.
-
Time and Place
This is really going to depend on what you have planned. Try and have the party somewhere where you feel comfortable and will be easy to supervise and control all of your guests. If you are changing locations make sure you specify where they the guests need to be dropped off at and picked up from. Try and have the party at a time where you don't have to supply a main meal (just small snacks). Be aware of nap times so you don't have a group of sleepy kids to try and entertain.
-
Party Duration
The length of the party will vary depending on the age of the children and what activities you have planned. Most younger kids parties generally last for no more then two hours as children get bored quickly, tired and start to miss their parents.
-
Themes and Costume
If you are having a themed party be sure to specify what the theme is. Make sure it is obvious that you want your guests to come in fancy dress and make some suggestions of cheap costume alternatives. Be aware that some kids might not want to dress up, forget to dress up or their families simply can't afford it. Have some spare costume accesories put aside just in case. Furthermore if your guests are dressing up make sure that the games and activities you have planned are suitable to be played safely in costume.
-
RSVP's
These days people tend to be a bit slack when it comes to the RSVP department. It is important that you know exactly who is coming so you can prepare accordingly. Don't feel embarrased to chase RSVP's as the party date draws nearer. Remember that chidlren who say they are coming sometimes don't show up while others who say that they can't make it suddenly appear.
