Fairy Garden Party Ideas

Make Believe

by Joannda Riche

Hold your breath and close your eyes,
Squeeze all the magic from inside.
Step through the circle that time defies,
And journey into wonderous skies.

Its's time to dance, its time to sing,
Enjoy the peace that fairies bring.
See their world through eyes of wonder,
And on their beaugty you may ponder.

Go deep within the wooded ground,
'tis there the secrets can be found.
Enjoy your journey, that begins right here.
Close your eyes, and have no fear.

Invitations

When it comes to invitations you can be as simple or creative as you like. Pre-made fairy invitations are available at most party and craft shops or discount stores, so if you prefer the simple option they shoudn't be too hard to find. For those amongst us that are more creative here is a few ideas:

  • Scrapbooking
Using left over coloured card and paper make your invite in the shape of a fairy, crown, wand, wings or toadstool. Let your child go wild with glitter, sequins and stick on gems. Just make sure all the vital information is still legible.
  • Photo Invite
Make your invites out of card and put a photo of your child dressed as a fairy on it. This not only reminds your guests of who the party is for but helps suggest an appropriate costume.
  • Scroll
Using colourful paper decorated with glitter and sequins make your invite into a scroll. Seal it with a fairy sticker and tie it up with matching coloured ribbon.
  • Organza Bag
Purchase pink, purple or silver organza bags from your local craft supplier and put the invite inside. Fill the bag with confetti, fairy dust and gems.
  • Fairy Wands
If you have the option of hand delivering your invites you could make fairy wands.  Simply cut out a star shape and decorate it with glitter, sequins and textas. Stick the star onto a popstick and write the party details on the back of it.

Costumes

There are many fairy costumes on the market some extravagant and expensive and others simple and cheap. A combination of fairy wings, a fairy wand, ballet shoes, a leotard, a fairy skirt and hair and face glitter will help transform any girl into a beautiful fairy. Be sure to check out our fairy costumes too.

Alternatively if you feel like being more creative and wish to make your own here is a few ideas about how to make fairy wings and a fairy wand.

  • How To Make Fairy Wings:
To make fairy wings click the link "how to make fairy wings" and follow the steps.
  • How To Make a Fairy Wand:
Using strong card draw and cut out a star shape. Decorate the star with sequins, glitter and textas. Decorate a stick of wooden dowel by wrapping coloured ribbon around it. Stick the decorated dowel to the back of the star and you have your wand.

Those precious little boys on the invite list can dress up as peter pan, a pixie, or a wizard by following these simple suggestions:

  • How To Create a Peter Pan Costume:
Generally a Peter Pan costume consists of a green hat, green shorts, a green t-shirt, green tights, a white rope sash and toy dagger/sword.

To make the hat you will need green felt, a red feather and glue. To begin with measure the circumference of your childs head. Using green felt draw and cut out a triangle so that the base of the triangle is the same length as your childs head circumference and the height is about half of this length. Bring the two sides of the triangle together and glue the edges leaving a small whole at the top. Poke the red feather through the hole at the top of the hat and fasten with glue. The green shirt can then be made to look more authentic by cutting a jig jag pattern along the bottom of each sleeve and the shirt.
  • How To Dress as a Pixie:
Pixie costumes are easy to create by simply wearing pixie ears, a green beree, green shorts, a green t-shirt, white stockings and green socks.
  • How To Create a Wizards Costume:
    Every wizard needs a:
*wizards robe - a bath robe decorated with stars and moons,
*wizards hat - use cardboard to make a cone shape, decorating it with silver stars. Attach elastic to the rim so that it stays firm in the child's head
    * wizards wand - wooden dowel decorated with riboon and silver stars

Games and Activities

If there is one thing that children love to do at parties its play games. Here is a few ideas to help keep them entertained:

  • Fairy Names
On arrival give everyone a new fairy name by visiting the fairy name generator at http://www.emmadavies.net/fairy/ or by simply creating your own. Make them a name tag to present to them on arrival or allow time for them to make their own.
  • Pinata's
Prior to the party make or purchase a fairy, unicorn, toadstoal or flower pinata. Using soft bats and lots of supervision let each child have a turn at bashing away for fairy treasure.
  • Pin the wings on the fairy
This game works in the same way as Pin the Tail on the Donkey except you have to put the wings on the fairy.
  • Fairy and Wizard Wands
Kids love to make things so why not plan an activity that allows them to make and decorate their own fairy and wizard wands. Simply pre cut some star shapes out of strong plain card then allow your little guests to decorate them using scraps of coloured card/paper, glitter, gems and jewels. Once they are done fasten the star to... and allow them to tie ribbon around it.
  • Fairy Jewellery Boxes
Alternatively to making wands your guests could make their own fairy jewellery boxes. Prior to the party collect spare shoe boxes from your local shoe shop (one for each guest). If the boxes have loads of writing on them cover with plain wrapping paper. Let your guests decorate their boxes with textas, glitter, scrap cardboard/paper/felt/material, stick on gems, jewels, sequins and confetti. Once completed the jewellery boxes become the perfect storage unit for lollies and prizes collected at the party.
  • Fairy Treasure Hunt
Create a treasure hunt throughout a room, the house, or garden by hiding chocolate gold coins, fairy stones, statues, jewels and other fairy treasure. Give each child a clue to help them find their treasure. Older kids can use written clues while younger kids may need photographic clues.
  • Musical Toadstools/Flowers
Using card, cut out toadstool or flower shapes (one for each guest). Place them around the middle of the room. While the music is playing the kids dance around the toadstools/flowers. When the music stops they have to quickly jump onto a toadstool/flower. The child who misses out on a toadstool/flower is out of the game. Each round remove a toadstool/flower until there is only one toadstool/flower and two children left. The final child to jump on the last toadstool/flower wins the game.
  • Pass the Fairy Parcel
This works in the same way as pass the parcel except the prizes inside the parcel are fairy themed.
  • Fairy Tag
This is like chasey except the fairies use their wands to slighly tap the guests they capture.
  • Dress up as a Wizard and tell them a magical story
Kids love to be read stories especially if you tell them with great animation. Some story suggestions include... This is the perfect activity to settle the kids down at the end of the party.
