Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder is a treatable mental illness that occurs in 1 - 2 % of the population. It is characterised by distinct episodes of mania and depression. Bipolar disorder can have a significant impact on a persons life, impinging on their relationships, career, self-esteem and longevity. However if this disorder is treated appropriately recovery from full manic or depressive episodes is possible. It is also equally important for families and friends of the sufferer to receive education in order to understand the illness and its treatment so they can thus provide the neccesary support.
